Compounded Pain Management Medications

Chronic pain is complex, and treating it effectively often requires more than a standard oral prescription. At Precision Rx Compounding in Vestavia Hills, we work with pain management physicians, primary care providers, and other specialists across the Birmingham area to prepare custom compounded pain medications tailored to each patient's condition, tolerability, and treatment goals.

From targeted topical pain creams to low-dose naltrexone and buprenorphine formulations, our compounding team builds solutions when commercially available options fall short.

Compounded Pain Medications We Prepare

Topical Pain Creams and Gels

Compounded topical analgesics are one of the most commonly requested formulations at Precision Rx. These preparations deliver one or more active ingredients — such as ketamine, lidocaine, gabapentin, diclofenac, baclofen, or cyclobenzaprine — directly to the site of pain through the skin. Because the medication is absorbed locally rather than systemically, patients often experience meaningful pain relief with significantly fewer gastrointestinal and systemic side effects compared to oral medications.

Topical pain preparations are particularly useful for patients managing neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, and localized chronic pain who cannot tolerate or do not respond adequately to oral analgesics.

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Naltrexone is FDA-approved at higher doses for addiction treatment, but at low doses — typically 1.5mg to 4.5mg — it has shown significant promise for managing chronic pain conditions including fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and inflammatory conditions. Because commercial naltrexone is only available at much higher doses, low dose naltrexone must be compounded. Precision Rx prepares LDN capsules in the precise dose your physician prescribes, using high-quality pharmaceutical-grade naltrexone.

Buprenorphine Formulations

Buprenorphine is used both in addiction medicine and as a chronic pain management tool. For pain patients, compounded buprenorphine preparations — including low-dose topical formulations and sublingual preparations — allow for precise dosing that commercial products do not offer. Our pharmacists work closely with prescribing physicians to ensure every buprenorphine compound is prepared safely and accurately.
